While same-sex couples have many of the same challenges as heterosexual
couples, they also face additional outside pressures due to homophobia that
create conflict within the relationship. These issues include: family acceptance,
different levels of comfort with being "out" and religious/cultural expectations.
You need a counselor who can teach you to recognize these outside
influences, so that you can better learn how to come together as a couple
instead of letting these pressures tear you apart.
Common reasons couples schedule an appointment:
-One partner is jealous without cause
-Couples can't stand arguing anymore
-One partner has been unfaithful
-One partner is feeling smothered or too clingy
-Couples with different sexual drives
-Couples that fell in love over the Internet and now are having problems
